An opportunity for a postdoctoral scholar is available in Dr. Sahin K. Ozdemir's group in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Saint Louis University, for highly motivated scientists having intellectual curiosity and are ready to undertake creative research for delivering innovative photonic solutions to complex problems. Candidates with strong background in theoretical micro/nano-photonics design (e.g., wavefront shaping, beam switching, non-Hermitian photonics, miniaturization of optical components and fundamental limits) and optimization theory (e.g., linear and quadratic programming, manifold optimization, nonconvex optimization) for applications in optical design problems.
The successful candidate will be joining a team of theorists and experimentalists and will primarily carry out research on fundamental limits in the design of non-Hermitian micro/nano-photonic devices and wavefront shaping. The candidate is expected to work closely with the experimentalists in the team and supervise and train graduate students.
Requirements:
Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Applied Physics, or Optical Sciences.
Proven track record in the fields in one or more of the fields mentioned above.
Proven experience in nano/micro-photonic design.
Advanced programming and simulation skills in Matlab, LabView, Comsol or Lumerical are highly desirable.
Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently, both under supervision and as a part of a team.
Term/Availability: This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
Saint Louis University(SLU) is a private, co-educational Jesuit university located in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. Founded in 1818 by the Most Reverend Louis Guillaume Valentin Dubourg SLU is the oldest university west of the Mississippi River. The University has campuses in St. Louis, Mo. and Madrid, Spain. SLU values academic excellence, life-changing research, compassionate health care, and a strong commitment to faith and service. For nearly 200 years, the University has gone beyond teaching facts and figures, encouraging students to form ideas and identities. Today, SLU students are nearly 14,000 strong. The University has invested vast resources to advance academic programs and enhance the student experience. SLU also is a major research institution where premier researchers tackle local and global challenges. And the University's commitment to community service has earned it national acclaim and bolstered its status as a character-building college.
