Job Description

RADIATION PROTECTION OFFICER, Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Office-Campus Radiation Protection Program (RPP), to function as an integral member of the RPP within the EHS Office. Will serve in a leadership role and provide expert radiation protection advice/service to support Institute academic and business objectives with due consideration of federal and state regulations, established EHS programs, and good practices. Responsibilities include managing several specific radiation protection programs, leading initiatives, managing staff, and acting as a member of EHS service teams and as a lead contact for MIT DLCs (departments, labs, and centers); and providing advice on research and operations, building projects, and experiments relative to the use of all sources of radiation. The advice provided will include the recognition, evaluation, and control of potential and real health hazards from exposures to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation sources, including licensed radioactive material, radiation-producing equipment, lasers, and other RF sources.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in science or engineering; four years' applicable experience in radiation protection; radiation safety expertise and working knowledge of regulations/standards specific to radiation protection for ionizing and non-ionizing radiation sources; general EHS expertise; experience with recognition, evaluation, and control of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation sources and hazardous chemicals and physical agents; knowledge of laser safety principles and requirements; experience managing people and projects; excellent customer service, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills; diplomacy; organizational and cultural awareness; and ability to function effectively in a team-oriented environment, manage people and projects, prioritize heavy workload, achieve the "big picture" goals while paying attention to detail, and achieve objectives in a timely and effective manner.
