Samtec’s Optical Group is seeking an Optical PCIe® Product Development Engineer. The successful candidate will work with the design, manufacturing, sales and marketing teams to enable products that meet customer's technical, mechanical and price requirements. The Optical Group develops and manufactures an advanced line of extremely high speed (56 Gbps and up) optical interconnect solutions.

Summary / Objective

1. Develop a strong understanding of Samtec optical transceivers design and performance.
2. Collaborate with vendors and standard bodies to develop industry leading knowledge on PCIe protocol at all layers.
3. Benchmark PCIe product performance and create hardware and firmware test strategy for all lifecycle stages.
4. Assist PCIe product strategy and roadmap with product management teams.
5. Work with sales teams to help position PCIe products at customers.
6. Create knowledge base and training for Samtec associates and customers.
7. Support customer implementations from prototyping to bring up through onsite visits or recreating within Samtec.
8. Create a strong network within Samtec customer and manufacturing teams.
9. Work with customer quality teams to support root cause investigations and processes.
10. ITAR: Must be able to legally work in the United States. Position requires the candidate to be a US Person as defined in ITAR, 22 CFR 120.15 (US Citizenship or Resident Alien Status) and defined by 8 USC 1101(a) (20)

Desired Skills / Experience

1. MS or BS in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, with experience in PHY ICs / optical transceivers / low latency protocols
2. Strong technical and verbal/written communication skills
3. Product background including exposure to opto-mechanical and/or electrical design/development is preferred
