The ISB Division (formerly Newport Corp.) of MKS Instruments Corp is currently recruiting for a Senior Electronic Engineer for hands-on design, testing, and manufacturing of electronic and opto-electronic modules and subsystems. This is an ideal position for an ambitious experienced engineer interested in working on very challenging projects and using state-of-the-art engineering hardware and software tools. The person in this position would become a member of highly qualified EE team working at very fast pace on wide range of cutting-edge technology applications.
Design, test, and troubleshoot analog and digital electronic circuits, firmware, and software
Design electrical systems with lasers, drivers, motors, controllers, sensors, etc.
Design and make system block diagrams and drawings (including drawings for sub-systems, cables, and interfaces)
Develop control and test software using LabVIEW and other development tools
Design and set up test systems and fixtures, develop procedures, fully support transition to manufacturing, perform tolerance analysis of the systems and results validation.
Collect, compile, and analyze data from different test systems and prepare reports
Support Design for Manufacturability and Value Engineering as well as working to the highest quality standards
Work in a team as well as an individual contributor, network with internal and external customers
Make independent technical decisions and take responsibility for module, subsystem, or entire system design
May be assigned as or work in collaboration with a Project Manager for selected projects in which responsibilities may include:
Develop, maintain, and track project plans and progress of tasks, deliverables and cost.
Organize, plan, and lead periodic project meetings.
Record, document, and publish significant decisions and action items in meeting minutes.
Performs a variety of duties in organizing and supporting of technical documentation.
Responsible for maintaining files for engineering drawings and processing of ECOs and other related documentation.
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience
Proficiency with analog electronics including operational amplifiers and discrete components
Mixed signal experience including ADC/DAC circuits
Experience with digital systems and microcontrollers and embedded integrated development environment (IDE)
Experience with PCB design software packages (minimum 3 years of hands-on experience)
Understanding design flow and principles of electronic design including schematic, board design, routing, and PCB manufacturing process
Knowledge of C/C++ and LabVIEW
Hands-on experience with electronic components, boards, sub-systems, and systems
Ability to read and generate electrical and mechanical drawings
Work experience with sensors and interfaces
Knowledge of embedded and industrial interfaces and standards (UARTS, SPI, I2C, RS-232/485, etc.)
Working knowledge of motors, controllers, and power electronics
Hands-on with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multi-meters, power supplies, generators, etc.)
Soldering and lab skills (wiring, testing, etc.)
Ability and willingness to provide direct or indirect customer support on various products
Must have a balance of strong analytical skills and hands-on system development with a proven track record of bringing multiple systems to completion and successful usage throughout their career
Strong communication skills, technical writing skills, and some project management skills is a big plus
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Technical team leadership experience
Hands-on experience with laser systems is highly desirable
Knowledge of RTOS and experience with Keil IDE
Familiarity with ARM microcontrollers, especially Cortex-M
Experience with Altium Designer
Knowledge of control systems (PID, feedback, etc.)
Familiarity with CE certifications and requirements
Knowledge and experience with safety requirements (electrical system safety, laser safety, interlocks, shutters, etc.)
Strong team building and interpersonal communication skills are essential for success. The individual must exhibit the ability to analyze complex technical situations and resolve issues, apply appropriate engineering problem solving, and keep the project development timetable on schedule. Individual must have a high level of initiative, judgment, and keen problem-solving skills to resolve complex technical and business issues that are diverse in nature.
