The Renninger group at the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester is recruiting two postdoctoral candidates with experience in nonlinear optics. The group has active research programs in fiber optics, ultrafast nonlinear optics, femtosecond mode-locking, frequency-combs, Brillouin scattering, optomechanics, and quantum information science.
We seek highly motivated post-doctoral researchers to study nonlinear light-matter interactions, ultrafast nonlinear dynamics, and new concepts for ultrashort pulse generation. Research activities will involve new techniques for the study of complex nonlinear optical systems and their application toward high impact technologies. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to gain experience in both ultrafast nonlinear optics and optomechanics. All research directions involve the development of theoretical models and novel experimental techniques. Experimental techniques for ultrashort pulse characterization and narrow linewidth laser characterization will be used. The positions will involve independent management of students, equipment and laboratory space and will offer significant opportunity for high profile journal publications and career advancement. Good communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Applicants should have received a Ph.D. in Optics, Applied Physics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. Successful candidates will have demonstrated the ability to conduct independent and original research in nonlinear optics. Expertise in nonlinear optics, ultrafast pulses, optomechanics, fiber optics, or in a related topic is preferable but not required.
