The Laser Optics Engineer has overall responsibility for the design, installation, maintenance, and safety of all facility laser equipment and associated optical accessories.
Conduct laser safety training for new employees and annual refresher courses thereafter. Ensure the safety of all employees working around laser equipment by maintaining the integrity of approved safety interlock systems and procedures. Perform Laser Safety Officer duties per the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standard Z136.1-2000 section 1.3 including LSO certification.
Implement a preventive maintenance and quality assurance program for all lasers and track essential data for use in capital and expense budget forecasts.
Prepare an annual proposal for plant management forecasting laser tube replacements and new system purchases based on projected usage and past history.
Be responsible for all facility laser systems and optical equipment by performing routine maintenance as required to meet production needs. Schedule field service support from laser vendors as needed.
Support the research and development efforts that might require laser equipment and holography by actively participating on new product development teams.
Train operators in proper use and care of optical and laser equipment. Assist in developing standard operating procedures for existing and new equipment.
Perform mechanical and electrical design with CAD software as required

Bachelor Degree (B.S.) or equivalent from an accredited college or university in engineering, physics, optical engineering, or applicable field of study plus 2 to 5 years of related work experience.
Must be able to read mechanical and electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and PLC ladder logic.
Solid understanding of laser theory, optics, holography, electronics, and physics.
Working knowledge of laser test equipment, multimeters, calibration equipment, and microcomputers.
Design experience with CAD software is preferred
Effective verbal and written communication skills; for use in classroom training environments and during hands-on demonstrations.
Able and willing to occasionally work a flexible schedule to support production needs dealing with laser support and maintenance.
