A postdoctoral/technical position is available immediately at the University of New Mexico (UNM), Albuquerque, NM in the area of experimental semiconductor photonics. The research involves fabrication, processing, spectroscopy and characterization of semiconductor gain chips, and implementation of novel optically-pumped semiconductor disk lasers (also known as VECSELs). The project also involves modeling and analysis of sub-wavelengths grating structures as active mirrors for such lasers. The PI (Mansoor Sheik-Bahae)'s group at the Department of Physics (at UNM) has close collaboration with, and access to facilities at UNM's Center for High Technology Materials (CHTM), Center for Integrated Nano Technologies (CINT), and Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque NM. We also closely collaborate with Crystalline Mirror Solutions (CMS- LLC) in Santa Barbara (CA) on this project.
The applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent) in Physics/ECE/Optical Sciences or related fields.
Preferred Skills: Laboratory hands-on experience with solid-state lasers, semiconductor processing and characterization. Modeling of thermal and optical characteristics of solid-state lasers and semiconductor devices.
