Collaborate in research and development in areas related to optics, optoelectronics, and/or optical engineering. Be responsible for advising students regarding specific coursework and broader academic or career goals. Develop and teach courses in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Develop research proposals for external funding opportunities, and collaborating with researchers from industry on joint research projects. Engage in research and publication, and scientific creation. Provide service through participation in governance of the department and/or the University. Contribute to the development of the profession, keep current with the field and broaden knowledge and expertise. Contribute to outreach activities that support the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering mission.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the areas of optics, optoelectronics, and optical engineering. The selected candidate should complement existing department strengths in diffractive and Fourier optics, plasmonics, optical biosensors, infrared devices, optical coatings, and optical materials. Candidates with multidisciplinary experience spanning optics and biomedical applications, e.g., imaging, are of particular interest. This is a tenure-track faculty position that may be hired at the assistant professor level, although exceptional candidates at all ranks in areas of strategic need will be considered. Successful candidates will have outstanding academic and research records and are expected to establish a vigorous, funded research program, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and be involved in service to the university and the profession. An earned doctorate in an appropriate discipline is required at the time of the appointment. It is anticipated that the appointment will begin Fall 2019. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
