In this role, the individual will be Responsible for the development, communication, implementation, training, management, and evaluation of Employee Health Programs and responsible for coordinating the overall health and safety programs at our manufacturing plant.
The Occupational Health Nurse and H&S Coordinator will:
Provide first-aid services for individuals that are injured or become ill at the facility and actively manage all worker’s compensation and short-term disability cases.
Serve as liaison between employees, management and outside health care providers to facilitate overall employee health issues and Workers' Compensation.
Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
Exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Provide general instructions on new assignments.
Create training presentations on areas they are well versed in, and be able to deliver the training to all levels of associates at the site.
Additional responsibilities include developing and implementing employee programs such as health education, accident prevention, wellness, and the OSHA- and Company-required safety training programs.
Additional experience working a functioning EHS department with background in some or all of the following areas is highly desirable: Chemical Hygiene, Hazard Communication - 2012, Industrial Hygiene, Laser Safety, Biosafety, Respiratory Protection, Job Safety Analysis, Personal Protective Equipment, and Medical Surveillance.
Responsibilities include the following:
Provide direct care for the treatment of occupational injuries and illnesses using established medical protocols and refer for further evaluation or treatment as necessary
Collaborate with management to further the objectives of health and safety programs
Facilitate and manage employee-based Safety Committee
Actively manage all worker’s compensation and short-term disability cases which includes the initial processing of documents, consulting with insurance carriers and medical providers while continually monitoring the employee’s recovery process to accelerate the return to work process and reduce costs
Perform and/or manage all occupational health surveillance testing including pulmonary function testing, audiometric testing, vision screening, etc.
Coordinate the annual OSHA- and Company-required safety training such as lockout/tagout, hot work, first aid and CPR, etc.
Work with local HR Manager to aid in FMLA management and administration
Collect and analyze data to establish health priorities and interventions
Current RN license in state board of nursing required to practice in the State of Texas.
Bachelor s Degree in Nursing or specialty occupation preferred. Associate Degree Nursing or Diploma required.
3 – 5 years’ experience in occupational health nursing with 2 years in Employee/Occupational Health in health in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
Knowledge of laws and regulations that govern worker’s compensation and environmental health and safety
Knowledge of FMLA and ADA
Knowledge of OSHA standards, including Injury record keeping, CDC recommendations and state Department of Public Health regulations applicable to pharmaceutical industry
Demonstrated phlebotomy experience.
Computer literate on PC and related software.

COHN-S/COHN preferred. BLS required.

Ability to effectively communicate the appropriate information to the various levels of the organization
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, all levels of management, associates, attorneys, and the general public
Read, speak, write, and understand English and Spanish
Knowledge of HIPAA
Counseling experience preferred
Return to Work experience
Periodic travel may be required
